I've been watching the Andrew Scott Ripley, and very good it is. I don't know the novels, but the Matt Damon film was a staple viewing for me for a few years.

I once had a fight with my mother over its interpretation. She held that sexuality was a lurid irrelevancy in a story that was mainly about psychopathy, a chilling portrait of a person who would "do anything" to get what he wanted. My position was that it was gay, and murder was the lurid irrelevancy.
