Oh yeah, many kitties. Honestly, there's more, because when I was a baby, there were two cats my parents had, Kaustinen and Jäppinen, but I guess they got rid of them because I was born. I don't remember them myself, but there were photos of them.
Then when I was 2, they got Torvinen. She was fluffy like Elmo, but in tuxedo coloring. She did make it to at least six, and she had several litters of kittens, but me being so young in those days I don't really remember them. But I do remember Torvinen.
Then when I was 6, my folks decided to take in two kittens, Karski-Katti and Pirpana, who got introduced to Torvinen with the help of my aunt, who used to be really into animal rights and was part of the local animal association. I actually think it was my aunt who convinced my parents to take the kittens.
We lived in an apartment building at the time, but soon after moved to a rowhouse, and all three cats became outdoor cats. But the mean old guy next door didn't like them doing their business in his garden, so my mom decided they needed to go away. The kicker is that we didn't have any cat carriers, so I remember dad taking them away in a large zip up bag. The story told to my siblings was that they got taken to another family, and to me it was told that Karski-Katti (who was mine, sort of) was taken to a new home but the other two went to the vet. In hindsight I don't think any of them got rehomed at all.
Over the years with my experience with current public veterinaries is they do do questionable things and make questionable decisions, which is why we haven't used them since Roope. We prefer private practitioners, who take pet care more seriously.
But I do believe, seeing what my folks did especially with Roy (the dog in the dog thread I did after these) and Figaro, I guess the "easier" way to get rid of unwanted pets was to just take them to the vet. Because Figaro definitely wasn't sick, he was just getting old. As was Roy, the dog.
I also suspect that my aunt got wind of my mom's actions and butted in with at least some of them, helping find them new homes.

@quester@mementomori.social ugh that's horrible about the 3 cats... IDK what vets are like there, I think here the vet will either not take in animals or they will give to a rescue at least. Here, there's definitely no excuse to do that. There's always been loads of cat rescue charities that will at least foster them.
I agree about the vets though. Here they are usually a chain vet, you need to go to an independent one to get real care. But of course the caveat there is that the independent ones don't usually take insurance :(
Thank goodness for your aunt huh. I just can't understand it. Even if I couldn't take care of them, I would never just dump my pets at the vet. I would be in tears at the local rescue.
Also, I found that picture of my first cat that Elmo reminded me of!
