come to think it's probably just going to be a small, restricted, custom subset of HTML, or SVG with extra steps

in any case the engine should be small, compressed, and ideally one executable with maybe one data file the data file could be embedded within the executable but depending of where I'm going to publish it it may be better to separate the platform-dependent and -independent data so I could ship 4 executables for Win/Mac/Linux/ARM without deduplicating the data 4 times or something
