@alessandro@cosocial.ca We used to live in a world where a writer or artist was assumed to have produced their own work. Even if it was trite pabulum. We now live in one where writers are constantly asking themselves, "if I use an em dash, a list of 3 things, or negative contrast, will people think I used 'AI'?" I'm sure something similar happens for visual artists. 1/3 @leeloo@c.im @astronomerritt@hachyderm.io

@alessandro@cosocial.ca So slop has stolen 2 things: 1) Viewers' ability to look at something and assume it was a genuine human creation, instead of having to be on guard against the possibility of deception 2) Artists' ability to create without worrying that they'll be accused of being sloperators Both of those do major damage to art itself, and to the human connection that art has always aimed to achieve. 2/3 @leeloo@c.im @astronomerritt@hachyderm.io

@kagan@wandering.shop I agree with that wholeheartedly from the POV of the artist and from people who appreciate the art, but I wonder what % of the population at large that represents. I think we're hammering away at a point that the average person simply doesn't care about - like trying to convince them that Marvel movies are slop andd they should watch "real cinema" instead. @leeloo@c.im @astronomerritt@hachyderm.io
