My final pre-referendum podcast - a powerful and poignant conversation with leaders from Alberta’s Chinese, Filipino and Vietnamese communities about their love for Canada, their love for Alberta, and their extraordinary, creative efforts to motivate and educate voters, to prepare them to vote on these poisonous, convoluted, questions. I was moved to tears by their passion and they frustration. If you need a little inspiration to vote yourself, or hope to get through these tough few days, please, please listen and share. https://open.spotify.com/episode/75KE9iyC7vFGV8ZD0AoIlB?si=PrhD4r2aTfadB-pKapl_4Q&utm_source=copy-link

@Paulatics@mstdn.ca I was looking at census data: as of the 2021 census, over 40% of Albertans are either immigrants to Canada or the children of at least one immigrant to Canada. This is a place defined by the people who come here for opportunity. It’s one of the strongest resonances of the two sides of my American-Canadian identity. (Trying to layer on interprovincial migration of non-immigrants — the population share of other Canadians who have made Alberta their home —was harder to determine from the data I could find)
