@tao@mathstodon.xyz The comments on HackerNews are never particularly great when the topic is maths, but they do suggest that in addition to saying what large AI companies shouldn't do, it might be useful to spell out explicitly what they could or should do to help out instead. Now there's already a Fields medalist hired by one of them (unfortunately lacking from the list of signatories) so of course they already know, but spelling it out also makes it clear for the rest of the world. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49662371
