We bounced a radio signal off Venus' surface! On 17+18 October the Dwingeloo Radio Telescope transmitted signals and Astropeiler Stockert received their echoes, 42 million km each way. We decoded a 10-character message from the echo: "VENUS ECHO". Decoding just that message required 40 minutes of echoes, because they were quite faint.
We're not done with this experiment yet, Venus' inferior conjunction is on 25 October, but we're so excited about this result that we're already sharing it. Data and analysis will of course be made public.
