@wafflesies@infosec.exchange apple is definitely more normal-person friendly i'd be lying if i said otherwise, but i'm honestly not sure how much i trust their security promise anymore... i think linux phones could happen, but the only way i see that is full compatibility with android apps... and at that point, why not just stick with aosp? android has its flaws, but i think it'd be fine if google took their grubby hands off aosp for good, and it's clearly not impossible to make aosp secure

@jm@dvd.chat so the issue people are going to find out is you need vendor support in order to secure your spot in the market That’s what killed Microsoft and their windows phones is no vendor support Linux phones as “smartphones” is probably in the near future but Linux phones being used for your mobile banking app is probably a slim to never chance The smartphone is not just a computer in your pocket contrary to popular belief, the Android ecosystem is actually a real ecosystem and it is controlled almost exclusively by Google. And because it has Google and their security policy they are eligible for secure applications. By degoogling you have removed any eligibility you may have had. That’s why I say smartphones are a heavily proprietary ecosystem and Google is a walled garden of its own just they give you a little freedom here and there when they choose to. But as we’re seeing all of that can be taken in a heartbeat.
