@lemay Or said that they were having a rough day and needed cute animal photos to cheer them up.

@lemay ..hello, is this thing on?

@lemay In my experience ppl who get "no engagement" on Mastodon are here looking for an audience not community.

@lemay Have you met Pumpkin? He found his way to our house (and hearts) in 2011... skinny & bedraggled. He hated the house and never wanted to stay indoors, so we built him a cat sanctuary in the woodshed complete with warming pad. When I took him to the vet's to have him checked out & neutered... seems he had already been uh, 'attended to'. Pumpkin hasn't been around for about 3 years now ... loved that cat.

@lemay Yes! Or dogs! The animal community in this place is beautiful.

@lemay the cat I posted last week wasn't cute? (Well, my most popular post here is somewhat furry related, so it makes sense)

@lemay slop cats incoming!

@raven_de_lioncourt@mastodon.social 2026-04-07 03:32
@lemay xD I am brand new to the app, but I think the cat thinks is so true anywhere

@lemay wait we're still hearing this "no engagement" baloney? I was on Twitter for 14 years, and I've been on Mastodon since 2017, and my own experience is completely different. I got mostly no engagement on Twitter, but I've gotten more genuine interaction on Mastodon in 9 years than I ever got in 14 on Twitter. You just need to not be a garbage person (foreign concept to some, I know...)

@ryan@m29.us 2026-04-07 03:53
@lemay This is just a ploy to get people to send you cute cat pics, isn’t it
-
@danish_akhtar7@mastodon.social 2026-04-07 04:20
@lemay I post the same content on Threads, Bluesky, and #Mastodon, but I get more engagement on Mastodon. I had great conversations here. The quality of posts and the right hashtags are also important.

@greenpepper22@mastodon.social 2026-04-07 05:21
@lemay this really seems like a thinly veiled way to get sent lots of cute cats pictures

@lemay Stop throwing shade on my ugly cat!

@grb090423@mastodon.social 2026-04-07 08:09
@lemay This! Or a garden of flowers. Or a bunch of moss. Or a whole load of lichen on a rock. 🤗
-
@aliide@mstdn.social 2026-04-07 08:36
@lemay or moss!
-
@sybren@fosstodon.org 2026-04-07 09:12
@lemay even without a cat picture I see more engagement here than on BlueSky!
-
@giuseppebilotta@fediscience.org 2026-04-07 09:20
@lemay I'm not ashamed to confess I've been thinking about adding cat photos to posts where I talk about science because my single most successful post is a random one of a cat on a chat. I expected it to be liked because, I mean, Fediverse and cats of course it's going to make numbers, but I never expected it to get spread so much!

@lemay Tell them to boost a photo of Owls in Towels. @owlsintowels Works every time. It's a no- brainer.

@hellomiakoda@pdx.social 2026-04-07 10:42
@lemay Mastodon numbers are much smaller, but they're all people who ACTUALLY like and want to boost. Not bots. Not advertisers.
-
@thegarbagebird@theblower.au 2026-04-07 11:21
@lemay or mentioned that they found a cool rock

@lemay And flowers too! I love growing these deep red Dahlias! #BloomScrolling

@lemay Not me replying to this post simply to note that I’ve done my Mastodonian duty and Favorited every cat photo in this thread so far.

@deathkitten@firetribe.org 2026-04-07 00:01
@lemay@mastodon.social Also works with other cute animals! I see lots of bunnies, dogs, guinea pigs, foxes, trash pandas, birds, the occasional donkey or horse, sheep (especially post sheep). Like, if it's an animal and even vaguely cute, they do numbers.
