SLEDGEHAMMER WALTZ To grandmother's house we go, into the huge night tarnished under the yellow silver of a waxing moon. The heart walks with us, keeping the cadence of the iambs of the I AM. Waltzing, Maltida. Some virtuoso is playing piano with a sledgehammer, the bass register coming up through the dance floor like elephants talking from miles away. (#poem continues, two more stanzas)

Like a woman doing the tango we stride backward into future. Dancing as fast as we can. Dancing in somebody else's red shoes. Dancing with the devil in the pale moonlight… Dancing all the way to grandmother's house pursued by the sledgehammer beats of our own and only heart. #poetry
