Be My Eyes’ users have reported concerns after it was found that some volunteers were posting videos of their interactions with blind users of the app on to social media. Mike Buckley from Be My Eyes talks to us on Wednesday to discuss. #blind #BlindTech

  • @doubletap I agree this bothers me. I'm not sure how much Be My Eyes can do about it. The whole world is virtual signaling.

@doubletap I am very concerned about the news that volunteers are posting our calls onto social media from the Be My Eyes platform. I am unsure of the reason for this action and the potential consequences for Be My Eyes. I believe the organisation should require volunteers to sign a non-disclosure agreement. If they breach this agreement, they could be removed from the platform and prevented from participating in the future. I suggest Be My Eyes implement a similar procedure for their visual interpreters. While this may be challenging due to the large number of volunteers and the ease with which anyone can become a volunteer by installing the app, more rigorous training and other measures are necessary to prevent this from occurring.
