I’m taking recommendations for witchy books for this time of year! I’ll consider almost any genre but some of my favorites are historical fiction, dark academia, and fantasy. 📚 I’m out on dystopian stories right now because *looks at our timeline* #Bookstodon #Books #Reading #library #audiobooks

@britt@mstdn.games I adore Nicola Griffith's Hild and Menewood. Witchy elements and set in 7th-century Britain, beautiful writing and all well-researched so you really feel you're in that place and time.

@britt@mstdn.games One of my faves, cozy, found family, queer-inclusive: https://sangumandanna.com/irregular-witches

  • @britt@mstdn.games The Honey Witch by Sydney J Shields is a cozy sapphic fantasy with witches and honey. The Doran series by Monica Furlong is a childrens fantasy that is also cozy. Malice and The Witch Queen by Heather Walter are also sapphic fantasy books with witchie elements, though more fairytale rather than say Pagan witchcraft. More speaking of Malice in this instance, but there is cool magic in both. Those are our recommendations, hope you like them. Totally recommend the audiobooks for these. -- Altheda/Lillianna/Bri

@britt@mstdn.games Not specifically witchy (asides from women using magic) but Emily Tesh’s “The Incandescent” is very, very good. Think the school of magic genre but from the perspective of the faculty. My partner said she nailed it with her portrayal of academia and its relations.

@britt@mstdn.games The Scholomance trilogy by Naomi Novik! The darkest of magical academia. Or if you want something lighter, The Grace of Wild Things by Heather Fawcett. Basically Anne of Green Gables if she was a witch. Technically a kids book, but I still enjoyed it. :)

@britt@mstdn.games Two witchy books for you: Red Rabbit, Alex Grecian. A whole lotta folks get more than they bargained for, when they try to come for a witch who outsmarts them at every turn. It's a dark, action-packed, incredible Gothic folk horror fantasy about a fateful epic quest in the Old West. The Change, Kirsten Miller, three women discover that their lifelong frustrations and resentments have been been transformed by magic that has been passed down for generations and channeled into empowerment, which they use for glorious revenge.
