In mathematics there is the fun debate of whether we are creating theorems and proofs and such or if we are discovering them. As we slide further into generative software engineering I think we are shifting from creating software to discovering it.

@awwaiid@mastodon.social Discovering? Sure. Because the LLMs are telling us what many other people, taken as a collective, already know. I'm bearish on "generative software engineering". LLMs don't seem able to originate ideas except when they confabulate. Granted, most humans are little better. But the LLMs are not going to develop wholly original work. That's going to have to be post-LLM AI.
