I think that the billionaires really do think they're changing the world for everyone's benefit. It *just so happens* that changing the world for everyone's benefit also funnels all the money to them, and also everyone feels worse all the time, has less money, and the environment is dying. but they're doing their best to make the world a better place!!!

Also, one of them (you know the one) is going to *discover* that actually the AI actually created him with the sole purpose of eventually creating the AI. It's only natural that he will go crazy and try to become God. He was destined for it, the AI chose him.
