That #Google co-founder #Brin has spent over 100 million dollars to defeat Prop 40 is all you need to know to vote for it. Here is the endorsement from the Sacramento Bee. "We agree that Washington should fix #Medicaid funding, and we agree Sacramento should develop a better tax system. But neither government has done so, and no opponent who met with our editorial board presented a funded alternative to Prop. 40." https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/california-pass-billionaire-tax-proposition-173000988.html #USPol #California

  • @CindyWeinstein@zirk.us Massachusetts showed that a one time tax isn’t necessary; you can keep taxing them, every year, and not just the billionaires, either. Turns out they DON’T go running off to Two-Penny Town, Alabama, when a blue state calls their bluff.

@CindyWeinstein@zirk.us Brin is the 5th wealthiest American worth ~$236 billion. Assuming he put $236B in a S&P market index fund for the last year, he could spend $100 million and still have made more than $27 billion in appreciation on his investment. To Brin, $100 million is like tossing a facial tissue away.

@CindyWeinstein@zirk.us One of the most important reasons to vote for this: it taxes assets, not income. That dodge is one of the main strategies the ultra rich use to dodge paying taxes.

@CindyWeinstein@zirk.us Bugger this *one time* nonsense, it ought to be an annual wealth tax based on all assets owned. IMO anyone with more than 10 times the average annual income ought to be subject to a (progressive) wealth tax. Tax regimes are gamed to favour the wealthy and proves that gaming works, hence it is also possible to game it for the better good of society and that is what *society* has to wake up to… it’s in *our hands* to make the changes. #InUnity

@CindyWeinstein@zirk.us Sorry, Brin, but if your right wing friends want to pass laws to make poor people go untreated, we're going to pass laws to tax you. You bastards are all looking for an excuse to go to Texas anyway. May as well give you one.

@CindyWeinstein@zirk.us If they don’t want to be taxed, could we just eat a couple of billionaires as a treat?

@CindyWeinstein@zirk.us Oh yes, end billionairism. The purpose of the economy is not a contest to make a landlord king. Self government, discussion, choice. End monarchy. Self government only.

@Photo55@mastodon.social @CindyWeinstein@zirk.us Well that explains the orange bawbag's desire for a military facility combined with his ridiculous arch -- it's the wannabe king's last resort. In this particular case it cannot be ne plus ultra. It would furnish narcissistic supply to call it such.
