Self-hosting rarely starts with expertise. It starts with curiosity. You don't have to know everything before you start. Most people begin with a single service they want to run on their own terms and learn from there. Running your own infrastructure has become much easier than it used to be. Better tooling, better documentation, and strong communities have lowered the barriers significantly. 7 tips to get you started 👇 For more details, check out https://htznr.li/sh2_ms

  • @hetzner@mastodon.hetzner.social that would be way easier if you would offer a clear, well-arranged webinterface.

@hetzner@mastodon.hetzner.social as much as I like Hetzner, I have to say the last post I thought was a mistake, but it seems like you're doubling down on ignorance or #virtuesignaling. To me self hosting, is owning your homelab... Not renting from Hetzner. Otherwise you're talking about owning whilst your business renting your services. Conflict of interest?

@hetzner@mastodon.hetzner.social Ports, firewalls, DNS. Step 1 is the hardest. After many many more than 1 hours trying to learn enough to dare, the thought of having something on the open internet still feels overwhelming to me. The "unknown unknowns" kill me... What would be the tightest resource you'd recommend about it?
