I would usually not post news about royalty as I couldn’t care less. However, in the two years I lived in Norway, I had the impression that King Harald was loved by the Norwegians and was one of the few down to earth royals. I remember an old photo showing him riding the Oslo subway with ski. All the trouble with the son (from a previous marriage) of his daughter-in-law seemed to be a strange disruption there.
King Harald passed away this morning at the age of 89. RIP.

@me_@sueden.social as a person born in the US, I find it hard to understand how little pomp attends the daily lives of VIPs in Europe; they don't travel everywhere with a motorcade and armed guards; they don't have a fleet of custom built jets at their disposal, etc
