Check out this cool open source tool that removes or disables unwanted AI components like Copilot, Recall, and other AI tools from Windows. 👏 Don't let Big Tech track you!💪🏼 ➡️ https://www.opensourceprojects.dev/post/c54eaf7b-1781-430a-bfdd-46b0fb8f8a32 Plus, here's a guide on how to stop Microsoft 365 Copilot auto-installing - step by step: https://tuta.com/blog/microsoft-auto-installs-365-copilot

  • @Tutanota@mastodon.social Or, if you have time and are fed up with Windows, there's a plenty of fully open-source, free as in freedom & free as in price GNU/Linux distributions that are not forcing telemetry, spyware & AI onto you.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social While the idea behind that tool is nice in theory, it is a game of whack-a-mole at best and risks broken apps. Their installation guide asks you to download and run a script as administrator - which is also a risk in itself. If you don't want to be tracked by big tech, there is a linux distro out there waiting for you...

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I see this useful for computers you are forced to use. But if the computer is yours and you don't have mandatory software to install, why not leave Windows for once and for all?

@Tutanota@mastodon.social If you pick a EU country when installing windows, most of it is disabled. For example you have no Copilot, Recall, and can even uninstall Edge! No need for a third party script that may not be safe, and could break after an update.

  • @Tutanota@mastodon.social If this works well I may have to talk to my family and work place about it. I might be able to convince my bosses at work to debloat windows with the possibility of it making stuff run faster. As much as I would rather people move to Linux I can understand why some don't. Moving to Linux seems scary especially for the non-tech savvy.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I am not super keen on teaching people to run stuff like `& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm 'https://kutt.to/RWAI')))` or ` ([scriptblock]::Create((irm "https://raw.githubuser...` in admin powershells. But I guess the curl|sudo bash ship has sailed a few years back :-/

@Tutanota@mastodon.social You can at least avoid running/interacting with AI yourself by replacing Windows and all its subscription and data harvesting shit Linux, BSD, etc. This also cuts off of the flow of your personal information to Microsoft servers. Unfortunately Linus is allowing AI slopcoding in the Linux kernel, but you can bet there's even more of it in the Windows kernel. At least the installed Linux kernel does not itself connect to and run AI crap. You could run an older kernel version but there is a problem: AI attackers find zero days faster than human programmers can, forcing an ugly AI arms race to close those holes. AI should never be used to write the fixes though. I for one am refusing to review PRs that have AI involvement and are too much code for me to understand every single line and function as though I had written them myself.
