Which command-line option/flag syntax you prefer? EDIT: added dd style #askfedi #unix #cli #terminal

I started to hate UNIX style and all the cryptic single-character code that are spread all through the system: command-line options, manpage section names, roff macros (those are cryptic two-character codes, tho), runlevels, etc. GNU style is backwards compatible with UNIX style but is more cumbersome to type and to implement (you need to index(3) the '=' char and read the option argument after it).

Other than X11 applications (using the Xt Widget Toolkit), ffmpeg(1) is a notable software with X11-style CLI options.
