@kagan@wandering.shop It took something away from the creator, but if the bulk of the population doesn't see that (or care enough) then I think the point gets diluted - like how the Monopoly board game was a co-opting of an explicitly political concept twisted to become capitalist propaganda. If I go around yelling at people to stop playing Monopoly because it's stolen content that undermines the game's original message, they'll lok at me like I'm some kind of zealot and walk away. @leeloo@c.im @astronomerritt@hachyderm.io

... like the "STOP HAVING FUN!" meme. I think we're ascribing way more introspection about these tools than actually exists with the average user, who's just like "hey this machine makes professional-looking text and funny pictures, cool!" and don't analyze it beyond that, because all the negative externalities are (deliberately) kept behind so many layers of abstraction that they're nearly invisible. Sanctimony will be a huge turn-off.

@alessandro@cosocial.ca @kagan@wandering.shop @leeloo@c.im @astronomerritt@hachyderm.io ...and not too long ago, if you told someone they couldn't own slaves, or that their wife had the right to refuse sex, they would look at you like you were crazy. Just because the "average" person doesn't get it doesn't make it right.

@alessandro@cosocial.ca But you don't have to yell at them to do that. Pretty much everyone hates that game already anyway. Funny, they're also avoiding "AI" art and anything to do with it... like @astronomerritt@hachyderm.io was originally posting about. You're hypothesizing that the bulk of the population doesn't care about this, but I see a lot of evidence that yes, they really do. Like, you know... *gestures at this entire thread* @leeloo@c.im
