@maikm Sounds like you might prefer to turn off Settings > Appearance > Show Perspectives Bar. That keeps the bar collapsed except when you specifically summon it by tapping the perspective icon.

@kcase Ah, that's better, thanks. Perspectives are still too much spaced out though, I need to scroll sideways to see them all, which wasn't necessary previously. Also, tapping the three dots in the upper right, I need to scroll that list popup to get to settings if an undo is at the top, because the list seems to have a fixed height.
