So many career/life skills boil down to seeing things from someone else’s perspective and focusing on value for THEM, not YOUR needs. The only variable is who you’re empathizing with (friends, users, customers, business partners, reports, etc). Perhaps Empathy is as fundamental as Math and should really be taught at school?
