@alwillis@mastodon.social @Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange I was reading that document and at first I was like "OK, if the data never leaves your devices, then that's fine... what's the problem?" but then I'm hit with that "Private Cloud Compute", which no matter how "private" they try to make it, it means that there's some other device outside your control that has your data (or rather, the other person's data, without their consent), no matter how temporary it is. Especially when current gen devices are more than capable of doing this computation themselves, even if it takes a little bit longer. So no, we shouldn't accept this technology as normal.

@starsider@valenciapa.ws @Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange For Siri Recap, all audio processing stays on your watch and iPhone. A language model creates a condensed, anonymous text summary, which is encrypted and sent to Private Cloud Compute before the raw audio is deleted. If on-device processing were feasible, they would use it, but it likely requires the cloud due to power constraints or complexity.
