@algernon@come-from.mad-scientist.club specifically
facio + -s => -fex
ars- + -fex => artifex
artifex + -ium => artificium
artificium + -alis => artificialis
artificialis => artificial (Old French, then Middle English)
and
facio => factum
ars- + factum => artefactum
artefactum => artefatto (Italian)
artefatto => artifact (English)
ars meaning "art" or "skill", "facio" meaning "to do", so they both ultimately come from something meaning "thing done via skill". If you go back to PIE they both come from words together meaning "to fit/join" and "to do", so kinda "thing made by fitting things together"

@algernon@come-from.mad-scientist.club I suspect "artifex" is related to the youtube channel "Artifexian", which would mean "Someone who is one who creates things" which makes sense if a bit wordy.
