@mosgaard@uddannelse.social idk what do you mean exactly by smooth? To me, for example, the intro melody of "take my breath away" sounds smooth, and it was made on dx7, which is an FM synth and probably the most popular synth at that time, along Juno, and I'm sure there's a preset online. But FM synthesis could be a bit aggressive. I have a hardware pro-1 synth, which is originally an 80s synth. Basically if you want to make "smooth sound", you can pick this one or any other subtractive synth (like vital), you can pick a saw tooth wave, then you just have to make slow attack and high sustain, cut off high frequencies a bit, and take the glide's rate parameter a little bit up so that the pitch of one note would slightly turn into another. And I'd add a lot of chorus for the 80s feeling. But I'm not sure if I understood you correctly", hope it kinda helps :/ If you like, you can send me the MIDI file, and I can record it on my analogue Pro-1 and send it back to you

@flenyo@hear-me.social this is a really cool answer, thank you so much. Vital is really awesome! I considered adding Al Jarrou's Mornin as a reference, but the solo sound in that one is a little too soft, so you suggestion was really great. I should preset dive in FM synths (and Vital) and see what comes up, so I can check out the presets. Great example, and it's kind of fun the intro riff just morphs in to the bass (and bass before low-end mattered).
