"Hurling" English Name: Adopted in medieval times to describe the violent, driving action of hitting and throwing the ball. Irish Name: Known as "iománaíocht" or "iomáint" in Irish, coming from the Old Irish word "immáin" (driving around or chasing), rooted in Proto-Celtic terms for "around" and "to drive". #ireland #slang #language

"Hurley" Or hurl or hurling stick. In irish "camán" from Old Irish "cammán". By surface analysis, "cam" (“crooked”) +‎ "-án". "Sliotar" This is a hard solid sphere slightly larger than a tennis ball, consisting of a cork core covered by two pieces of leather stitched together. Sometimes called a "hurling ball". #ireland #slang #language
