I'm so pissed. Fires have been increasing in this area for the past 23 years, ever since the big Kelowna Firestorm in August 2003.
We've known for a long time that climate change is a thing. At first we were calling it global warming. Introduced in a 1975 paper, then in the news starting in 1988.
And we've done almost nothing.
Stop building pipelines across the country! Stop pumping oil, and instead pump more funding into wind, solar, and electric cars. Find ways to convince companies to allow their employees to work from home instead of sitting in traffic every day while vehicles burn fuel.
And tax the rich with their private jets and massive carbon footprints.
What will it take for our politicians to do something?
The number of fires and evacuations near me is astounding. Over 230 homes burned so far in the last few days.
And tonight it is getting worse.

@charette@mstdn.ca I share your anger and your frustration. Every day, while I watch people forced to flee their homes, and while thousands of hectares of our beautiful country go up in flames, while we hide inside because the air is opressive and choking, all I can think of is that we know the people that are responsible for all this. And we do nothing.

@charette@mstdn.ca what will it take to get politicians to do something? Set realistic political donation limits, a few thousand at most. No political donations from corporations or groups. No black money ads. That's a start.
