Wired - ICE HSI is engaged in far-reaching spying against left-wing activists that rivals the FBI and CIA crackdowns on the 1960s Civil Rights and anti-war movements. https://www.wired.com/story/ice-is-running-one-of-the-largest-anti-left-surveillance-operations-in-us-history/

On Oct. 26, a district judge ruled that Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey was unlawfully fired from the DOJ. Nick Bednar explains how this case may help other federal employees who have been removed from their positions, depending on how other cases are resolved. https://www.lawfaremedia.org/article/can-the-attorney-general-remove-assistant-u.s.-attorneys-at-will

The dev team of Destroyer: The U-Boat Hunter faced a bit of backlash about using generative AI for their thumbnail on #Steam, so they replaced that with 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 #art which happened to be done by a 5 year old (a neighbor's daughter!) So a #gaming story which started off being awful, kinda wins

Finnish developer Lasse Öörni has spent over four years creating Steel Ranger 2, an enormous new #Commodore64 adventure with over 800 screens, a 45-minute soundtrack and almost everything made by himself for the love of #gaming I've written a really small article on my hobby #NeoCities site about the game, its development and the dedication of people still making ambitious new games for the #C64 in 2026 This is a niche one for those who love #RetroGaming I think! https://handheldhideo...

The #Azahar #emulation devs have dropped official support on #Anbernic handhelds after the company promoted its upcoming RG DDS using an unofficial fork of the #Nintendo #3DS emulator I interviewed Azahar's lead developers, OpenSauce and PabloMK7, a while ago, and some of their comments about manufacturers are relevant. I've included them alongside what this means for Anbernic owners This is a short not-quite-article, so it is on my #NeoCities page rather than my site: https:/...

Sad to see the #Atari VCS console will now cease production and support by Jan 2027 I loved the #design language on the console itself, and the fact it ran #Linux, but the low specs and high price meant this one was pretty much dead in the water from the start so far as #gaming goes Atari will “make an OS update available that allows you to migrate all functionality to your local machine, removing any dependencies on Atari infrastructure for authentication and software.” then though R.I.P.

I've spent the last couple few weeks interviewing five developers behind #DroidDeck, the ambitious project bringing the real #Steam experience to #Android handhelds We talked about its origins, #gaming, technical breakthroughs, rapid development, AI, open source and what's next. It's a long read, but I really wanted to tell the story of the people making it happen, not just the software itself! I'm proud of this one, so I hope you like it: https://gardinerbryan...

Today's tiny daily article for my #NeoCities is about Alien 3 CD32 Edition, a fan-made overhaul of the original #Amiga game about #Alien with improved graphics, sound and performance It also got me thinking in a roundabout way about the troubled history of #Alien3 and the fans who've spent decades trying to improve the film. This one is for the #AmigaCD32 fans, and #RetroGaming too I guess! https://handheldhideout.neocities.org/articles/alien-3-cd32-second-chance-amiga

Some crappy news site's article has clearly been written with #AI and it chose the wrong photo to illustrate the article Rather than Policia Sova População (Police Service Portugal), it instead grabbed a #Sony #PSP image to use as the key art The internet really 𝘪𝘴 dying before our very eyes here
